Our kalahari melon carrier oil is wild harvested by a group of women on the west coast of South Africa, on a farm that produces potatoes and almonds. During fallow years the potato fields are rested and the kalahari melon regrows naturally amongst an array of fynbos. Only a fraction of the fruits are harvested, leaving sufficient seeds for the wild continuation of the crop.
We chose kalahari melon oil as our first indigenous carrier oil for its dense antioxidants, as well as its omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids. It has hydrating and moisturising properties, specifically suited for oily skin, due to high levels of linoleic acid. It also improves and maintains the integrity of cell walls, which makes the skin appear smoother. It blends wonderfully with our indigenous organic and wild essential oils.
The oil is cold-pressed from the sun-dried seeds of the Citrullus lanatus, known by the women who collect it as "bitterboela". The plant is indigenous to South Africa.
